ARNO ELETTRONICA EH ANTENNA SYSTEM

Dear Julie,
Id like to express my full satisfaction with the excellent performance of my EH Antenna Cobra 40. I dont have one of those professional HF RX-TX, but a simple 4-band that allows me to get on the air.
I do not want to raise personal prejudices nor technical opinions. The important thing is that I have no limit in my radio activities and in my QSO. I listen to all the OM with no problem at all, even when the QRM, typical in this frequency, dominates the 40 meter band.
What can I say: small, efficient, reliable, but, aboveall, present in every occasion. I do not have enough space for vertical or directive antennas, therefore I can not do a general comparison. As far as I am concerned the reports I receive are enough and the QSO made speak clear, always optimal considering the overall dimensions. Sometimes I arrive better than other stations with the only 100 watt output of my TX.
Diplomas, Contests, DX, etc, etc, arent impossibile with this antenna. So, Great Fun to everybody! 73s from IW1RLR op. Nicola

From LIVIO COBRA 11 ANTENNA
I have installed my EH antenna in the garden on a 7 metre telescopic mast. Despite the very poor propagation I connected many stations in South Italy with good signals: R5-S9 and also stations in Spain, France, Russia and Belgium.
During these QSO I made comparisons with my traditional 11 metre band vertical antenna that is put 20 metres higher than my Cobra11 EH antenna. Results upon transmission were: The EH Antenna performed better both in RX and TX. NO QRM.
My station: PRESIDENT JACKSON - ZGMB+9

Im very happy with my COBRA11.
Ciao from Livio

Dear Julie, Dear Marco,
as promised I am sending you the pictures of my Venus.
It is installed at a height of 6 metres from the terrace floor, far from my other antennas that are located on the opposite side.
I did a choke of about 6 turns with the coax (Very random to be honest) at the base of the mast. While inside, at the end of the coax, I made 8 turns on a diameter of 10 cm. Since the coax was abundant, I thought that this would avoid eventual RF feedbacks.
This configuration has given me a perfect 1:1.
The bandwidth is exactly that which you declare in the specifications. I must say that I wanted to try your Venus 160 to see and be active on the last band that I was missing. Besides, even though it is not a small terrace, where and how could I have put an antenna for the 160 metre band? The fact is that all I wanted was to be there! With great satisfaction Im sending you some of the most significant stations that I connected with very little time available.
The connections were made with a propagation that, although monitoring the Cluster, to my opionion was not at its best.
These are the reports I got from my correspondents. I was transmitting with 700 watts: S9SS 579 PILE UP
4J5A 559
VK6ABL 559
JA6JPS 559
JA5EMU 559
JW5NM 599
VQ9LA 559 PILE UP
UA9MHN 599
HL3IUA 559
5Z4DZ 579 PILE UP
9M2AX 559
TY5MR 559 PILE UP
K6LZ 559- Nearly day time
N4PN 559- Nearly day time
W8FJ 559- Nearly day time 0455 GMT
Venus 160 is extremely silent. Sometimes I get the feeling that I havent selected the right antenna, HI!
I would say that, considering the results and the period, the tendency to the DX is prominent.
A few signals were worked at the limit of comprehension. Another note which I deem very important is that I can connect whatever I can listen to.
What more can I say. Im enthusiastic!
The alternative was that of further spoiling the joint ownership terrace with a 40 metre Slooper or an 80 metre Inverted Vee! Greetings, thanks to everybody for all the advice and good work!
LUCA RAMELLO IK3VUT

And now, news from Federico IZ1EPM and his holiday in wonderful Sardinia with his family and his Cobra30
Even Saint Thomas(*) would have given up .... Freddy IZ1EPM
I had been hearing about EH Antennas for quite a time, exactly since my friend Beppe IZ1BLH, with his usual engineer lucubrations at our local radio club, suggested me the idea of reducing the encumbrance of my long dipoles in favour of the miraculous American antennas that were waking up radioamateurs curiosity.
It has taken years and the help of the RadioRivista magazine, read during one of those hot afternoons in August, to make the so called prophetic Saint Thomas curiosity make me get in touch with Arno Elettronica. I continued repeating to myself what great an occasion was my usual Summer trip to Sardinia to test if these tiny tubes could really be a valid solution for those who suffer problems of space and yet so much passion for the DX.
Julies availability plus my ferry-boat leaving from Leghorn helped and on August 2nd I got my Cobra30.
Now, since my ferry wouldnt have left till the morning after, I decided to contact Marco IZ5EME who willingly accepted to do a first comparative test. Marco lives in Grosseto and , lucky him, he has one of those roofs that look like a basket full of snails with all his antennas up!
A 40metre dipole was our comparison term. A coaxial switch connected to one RTX allowed us to see in real time the difference of signal and there came our first shock .
Once tuned on a European station, among his reports, I get hold of the call sign of his correspondent, a Japanese, and I wait for the moment of exchange. Fabulous in the noise. It was 6,30 pm local time, surely not the best time in August due to the solar activity to listen to a DX at 10.000kms away. And there came the chirping of JA who answered with a difference of less than 10dB from the 20 metre dipole. Marco and I were a bit astonished so we repeated the comparisons in various situations, mostly European, until I decided to try it in transmission by answering to 9A/OM2VL s call that arrived on the s-meter of Marcos IC-7800 above S9. Immediate QSO and a received report of 599. The last act in Grosseto to witness the existence of a Saint protecting those with no space on their roofs was completed, now all I had to do was to use it as an IS0.
I left the day after and at 4,30 pm I was in Santa Teresa di Gallura, North of Sardinia, where my family and I spend our Summer holidays. I got ready to take off IZ1EPMs clothes and, just like Paperinik, to put on those of II0P, call sign which I got from the Ministry in 2003 to operate in DX from the island.
I installed the antenna in a sacrificed spot of the house, at about 3 metres from the wall where I have had a wee 1,5 metre mast for years and normally was used for a rotator or my 50MHz Yagi or my multi band HF vertical.
I positioned the coax, a 15 metres of RG213 Foam, as per instructions in the users manual and then ran it through a skylight into the house and connected it to my brand new and never yet used IC-7000. I tried to transmit but the VSWR was a bit too high, so I went back out and let the coax run right down to the ground (It had a 90 angle at 2,5 metres from the Cobra30), back to my RTX and VSWR had gone down to 1:1,7, more than tolerable to transmit.
Although the position was not great, I can assure you that the take-off towards North-North East from the top of the antenna was enough to make a pilot of a Canadair green with envy while gliding on the sea. The only negative note is that towards South there are houses higher than the position of the antenna; while towards the West , as already said, at 2,50 metres theres the wall of the house. It is undeniable that all this created a strong doubt regarding reception and transmission performance. I opened my dances at approx 10,00 pm.
I memorised my automatic call, tuned at 10109KHz and started my battle towards my prefixed target of 50 60 countries.
More or less 3 minutes later I began to receive answers. I didnt expect my signal to be exceptional with my 90 Watts and most of the answers were due to curiosity regarding my call. I included a good number of European stations into my log.
